MY Opinion: Christmas! And Christmas gifts!

Christmas is coming!

It's the time of the year where families gather.
For Christians, they celebrate the birth of Christ.
While for non-Christians(such as myself), I see it as a holiday opportunity to catch up on some family bonding.
Plus, it's great to buy gifts for your loved ones and friends (or make cards).

This year, I am quite cash-strapped and thus I would largely be making cards for people. Alas, I art a poor student!
But seriously, I think making cards are the most heartfelt way of expressing your feelings towards your family members, friends, etc. Of course, my friend S would disagree since ugly cards are unappealing to her =X

Look at these gorgeous Christmas ornament shaped glitters. Bought from PaperMarket

And these quirky ribbons :)
In all honesty, I think there is no need for lavish gifts for Christmas. I think family bonding and stuff is far more rewarding and valuable than gifts.
Also, I tend to thumb my nose at gifts that use extensive packaging.

Crabtree & Evelyn, I’m staring at you

I mean, hey, I get it, it looks fabulously wrapped BUT it's all going down the dustbin soon. I know some people will save their wrappers while most would be like my nephew, the destroyer of wrapping paper!

Our poor earth, don't you think?

At most, I’d give something with a nice ribbon, because the ribbon is more likely to be reused than fancy paper.

Plus, chocolates are way overrated!
I know they’re kind of the ‘staple’ gifts but seriously, if everyone gives chocolates, you’re gonna end up with a heck load of them!

Do you need a truckload of chocolates as gifts during Christmas?
I had a friend who ate so much gifted chocolates that he grew sick. Oh noes!

Worse still, are people who give fragrances and body lotions. While we would like to think our tastes are splendid, our recipient may not.

For me, I am a person who likes green, clean scents and anything heady, vanilla-based or sickeningly sweet makes me nauseas. Unfortunately, my mother loves giving fragranced gifts and I wonder how much her friends like her taste (FYI, she loves overpoweringly floral perfumes).

Ah, I have rambled.

In short,
I think Christmas is great.
But gifting using fancy wrappers is horrible and bad for our earth.
Chocolates are overrated.
Never, ever give fragrance products unless you’re certain most can tolerate it.
The most important part about Christmas should be to be with your loved ones and bond.
